Short Term Therapy Success: Ed W.

Ed W. was admitted to Fountainview Nursing and Rehab following a fall resulting in a fracture of his left hip. Upon admission, Ed demonstrated poor lower body strength, impaired standing balance, and he was unable to transfer or walk independently.

Ed was evaluated by our Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists, and an individualized plan of treatment was developed to target his deficits as well as personal goals. Ed participated in PT, OT and ST services 5X each week targeting strength, endurance, balance, techniques for self care, as well as problem solving for safety. Ed made consistent progress each week in the areas of bed mobility, transfers, lower body strength, and ambulation. As his hip healed, and his precautions were lifted, Ed participated in a home evaluation to target the skills necessary for him to safely transition to live at home. At the time of discharge, Ed had regained his strength and endurance, and ambulated 300+ feet with a front-wheeled walker. Following 6 weeks of therapy, Ed moved home to live independently.

We are so proud of Ed! It was a pleasure to assist him in meeting his goals.
