Short Term Therapy Success

Carolyn L. was admitted to Fountainview Nursing and Rehab following a fall resulting in a hospitalization and significant weakness. Carolyn was unable to stand independently, transfer from surface to surface, ambulate, or complete self care tasks. Additionally, Carolyn was unable to safely swallow and was only able to drink thickened liquids.

Carolyn was evaluated by our Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists, and an individualized plan of treatment was developed to target her deficits as well as personal goals. At first, Carolyn was reluctant to participate in therapy. However, after some encouragement from our therapy staff, Carolyn slowly began to make progress. Carolyn participates in PT, OT and ST services 5X each week targeting strength, endurance, balance, techniques for self care, as well as safe swallowing. Carolyn has made excellent progress and is now able to transfer with the assist of 1 person, ambulate up to 50 feet with a front-wheeled-walker, independently complete upper body dressing, and she is now able to safely drink thin liquids.

Our therapy team plans to continue to work with Carolyn until she reaches her personal goal of being able to leave the facility to have dinner with friends. It is a pleasure assisting her in her progress!
