Short Term Therapy Success

Carlton “Darrell” L. was admitted to Fountainview Nursing and Rehab following surgery to amputate 4th and 5th toes on his left foot. Following the surgery, Darrell experienced significant weakness, decreased ability to safely transfer, and decreased balance, negatively impacting his ability to walk and stand in place to complete ADLs.

Darrell was evaluated by our Physical and Occupational therapists, and an individualized plan of treatment was developed to target his deficits as well as personal goals. Darrell participated in PT and OT services 5x each week targeting strength, endurance, balance, techniques for self care, and compensation strategies for a safely returning home to live with his wife. Darrell worked extremely hard during each session, and he was an active participant in his own recovery. At the time of discharge, Darrell had been released to walk with a front-wheeled-walker throughout the facility, and he could independently complete all activities of daily living. Darrell was discharged from therapy as of 12/27/17, and successfully returned home within 30 days of being admitted to our Rehab facility.

It was a true pleasure to be a part of Darrell’s success! He will be returning to our department to receive outpatient therapy to continue building his strength and endurance.
